Paint me black
This week on the ABC's indigenous arts and culture program, Awaye, Claire Henty-Gebert told movingly of finding her real Alyawarra family in Tennant Creek, seventy years after being taken away to Croker Island. Her new book Pain me black is named after the practice of painting 'coloured' aboriginal children black to stop the Australian government from taking them away.
