John Logie Baird's apparatus for inventing television was very simple - indeed this was the reason for his success over his competitors. Here he is on Off the Shelf ('Television and Me') describing the moment when it transmitted the first picture.

In Liz Jensen's creepy Off the Shelf reading on the BBC World Service, Louis describes the events leading up to him falling off a cliff. I was none the wiser for it and still don't understand the ending, but it's great radio!
